The job openings for phlebotomy technicians are plentiful. A skilled phlebotomist can travel throughout the world without a worry of finding gainful employment. Phlebotomists are so important because they deal with blood drawing techniques and venipuncture, documenting and labeling blood samples. They also have substantial patient interactions and are on the frontlines of patient care. Having a phlebotomy certification greatly expands workplace options, from clinics to hospitals to global prevention organizations.

The Capital College Phlebotomy Program gives students the ability to earn a phlebotomy certificate in as few as 11 weeks. Students learn to perform venipunctures, obtain laboratory specimens, and effectively function as an essential member of a clinical laboratory team with first-hand practice.

Capital College's Phlebotomy Program

The Phlebotomy program is a 10-20 week, 80-hour certificate program. The program is designed to prepare students to perform percutaneous venipunctures competently and safely, to obtain laboratory specimens, and to function as a vital member of the clinical laboratory team. The program includes teaching on medical terminology, collection procedures, and hands-on laboratory practice. The first part of the program is a 10-week, 40-hour classroom-based instruction. The second part is a 40-hour externship.

Students who successfully graduate and complete a minimum number of unaided blood draws will be eligible to sit for major national certification exams, including American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), National Healthcareer Association (NHA), Medical Career Assessments (MedCA), and others. The core program is taught by our faculty. Hands-on training gives students real world experience in the most relevant health and medical field settings. Capital College students have had a 100% success rate when it comes to taking national certification exams.
